The topsy-turvy world of Men's League 4 continues with every team still in with a chance of raising the trophy. Temperatures outside may have been dropping, but it was hotting up on court as PwC Castletown Abbey B continued this season's dominance over Tynwald Celts A with a straight games +83 point victory.
A good start was made by Castletown Abbey as Nick Thornley & Graham Coffey began convincingly 21/13, 21/18 against Tynwald Celts' Tom Long & Dave Wilson. This was continued by Damian Peter & James O'Meara 12/16, 21/14 against Mark Callow & reserve Ming Cheng.
Then, just as Thornley & O'Meara looked again to be cruising after taking their first game 21/13, the feathers almost fell off the bird, Long & Cheng pulled back a deficit with great vision and dexterity missing the second game win by just one solitary point.
Next up, Peter & Coffey versus Callow & Wilson, 21/12 in the first and then another wobble from Castletown Abbey, despite an impressively committed sequence of dives by Coffey, where Tynwald Celts clawed back another deficit to almost snatch it, excruciatingly missing out again by just one point, 21/20.
Play settled down into a more predictable groove in the final few games, Coffey & O'Meara 21/11, 21/13 versus Wilson & Cheng, followed by Peter & Thornley in the final two against Callow & Long 21/11, 21/8.
