Men's League 3: Castletown Abbey B [143] versus Rushen A [252]
PwC Castletown Abbey B needed to up their game from last week's agonising 32 point loss against Rushen A to stay in reach of the league title, but with their usual 1st and 2nd unable to play it was always going to be difficult. Rushen on the other hand were at full strength and on a roll.
The 143-252 scoreline does depict consistent one-way traffic, with Rushen taking every game by an average of almost 10 points, but within that there were plenty of very entertaining battles and nail-biting rallies.
Special mention should be given to Castletown Abbey reserves Michael Saabye Katkjaer and John Thornley who demonstrated some of the deceptive play that has proven so effective for them in League 7 this season.
In the end though, Rushen were simply too strong, and having taken 6 points off Castletown Abbey in the last two weeks the league table has turned completely. Rushen A take the league victory with one match in hand and Castletown Abbey are theoretically in a fight with Selborne B to avoid relegation.
Nominated players of the match were John Thornley (Castletown Abbey) and Michael Broadbent (Rushen).
