The first match having been postponed due to biblical weather conditions (rescheduled for the 25th Feb), this was the first opportunity for Designer Glass Castletown Abbey B (home) and Celtic Gold Peel A (away) to see what each other was made of.
As play got underway a pattern emerged with the Mens' going the way of Castletown Abbey and Ladies', Peel—an outcome that was endangered briefly at the beginning when 2nd Ladies Sinead Stephens & Claire Townsend, Castletown Abbey, were up in the final stages of their first game against Susan Craine & Chantal McLean only to loose out 19/21 in a nail-biting finish.
The close night continued as the mixed game results were fittingly mixed, the momentum even tipping slightly towards Peel (8 games to 7) as the shuttle was thrown in the air for the last match of the night between the 1st Mixed pairings of Pete Hadfield and Lisa Watterson, Castletown Abbey, and Stuart Gell and Alison Craine. Thankfully for the home team Hadfield and Watterson kept their composure and snatched the victory away from Peel with two deft and decisive games, 21/13, 21/12, leaving the final tally in favour of Castletown Abbey B at 9 games to 8.
Players of the match were awarded to Sue Craine (Peel) and Stuart Lyon (Castletown Abbey).
